The market menu, translated

Behind every fixture sits the same family of contracts. Learning six markets covers ninety percent of a South African bettor's slip: 1X2, double chance, totals, BTTS, handicaps and the accumulator that ties them together.

01The core six

Standard market types on SA bookmakers including Apex Bets
MarketYou are betting onTypical use
1X2 (match result)Home win, draw, or away winThe baseline football bet
Double chanceTwo of the three 1X2 outcomes togetherLower odds, higher cover
Over/Under (totals)Combined goals/points above or below a lineSport-agnostic, margin-friendly
Both teams to scoreYes or no on each side scoringPairs naturally with totals
Handicap (spread)A team to win with a virtual head start or deficitBacking favourites at usable odds
AccumulatorAll selected legs must win; odds multiplyWeekend staples, margin multiplies too

02Handicaps without tears

A -1 handicap on a favourite requires a two-goal win; +1 on the underdog wins if they win, draw, or lose by exactly one... no - by one goal it is a half-win on the Asian quarter lines and a push on the whole line. The clean version: whole-number handicaps can push (stake back), half-number handicaps always settle. If that distinction is new to you, bet your first handicaps small until settlement stops surprising you.

03Which markets clear bonus wagering

For the Apex Bets sports welcome wagering (20x at minimum odds 3.0), the constraint binds on price, not market type - a totals leg at 3.2 counts the same as a match-result leg at 3.2. The practical route is doubles and trebles of mainstream markets, whose combined odds naturally clear 3.0 without hunting exotic props. Exotic markets also sometimes carry reduced contribution in bonus terms, so mainstream is doubly safe.

QFrequently asked questions

What does 1X2 mean?

Home win (1), draw (X), away win (2) - the three-way football match result market.

What is the difference between Asian and European handicaps?

European (whole) handicaps allow a push; Asian (quarter/half) lines split stakes across adjacent lines to eliminate pushes.

Do all markets count toward bonus wagering?

Check contribution rules in the bonus terms; exotic markets often carry reduced or zero contribution.

What is a draw no bet?

A two-way market refunding stakes if the match draws - effectively 1X2 with the draw removed at lower odds.

Why are handicap odds different from 1X2?

The handicap shifts the win condition, so prices rebalance; that is the point of the market.
