02How licensing works in South Africa
There is no single national online betting licence. Each province licenses and regulates gambling within its borders, and the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board is the regulator for the Western Cape. A WCGRB bookmaker licence obliges the operator to comply with provincial gambling law, including player fund handling, responsible gambling measures and dispute procedures.
A provincial licence is a meaningful local credential - materially different from an offshore licence presented to South African players. It does not, however, authorise the operator in every country, and this dossier makes no claims about any footprint beyond South Africa.
03How to verify a licence yourself
- 1Go to the WCGRB website (via westerncape.gov.za) and find the licensed operators or licensee register.
- 2Search for the licence number 10194002-002 or the entity name Letsbet (Pty) Ltd.
- 3Check the licence status, licence type and expiry shown on the register against what the brand advertises.
- 4If the register and the website disagree, treat the register as authoritative and contact the regulator directly.
04What a licence does and does not guarantee
A licence means the operator passed regulatory checks at issuance and remains accountable to a local regulator, including for complaints escalated through official channels. It does not guarantee payout speed, bonus fairness or good service - those are what reviews like this one test. It also does not remove the need for FICA identity verification, which South African law requires before withdrawals.
QFrequently asked questions
Is Apex Bets licensed in South Africa?
Per its disclosure, yes - by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, licence 10194002-002, issued 26 November 2025. We recommend confirming on the WCGRB register.
What is the WCGRB?
The Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, the provincial regulator responsible for licensing and supervising gambling in the Western Cape.
Can I trust an offshore licence instead?
Offshore licences are not equivalent to a South African provincial licence for local players; they do not confirm local authorisation. Apex Bets discloses a local licence, which is the stronger credential.
Does the licence cover casino games too?
South African bookmaker licences and casino authorisations differ; check the licence type on the WCGRB register for the exact scope.
